A saliva test with an oral fluid collection device is done by using a swab which looks like a toothbrush and is used to get a small amout of oral fluid. Thus fluid is then used to take tests which give you a pass or fail. Oral drug test is used to detect the following drug components:

  • THC: Cannabis, marijuana, hashish
  • COC: cocaine and crack
  • OPI: heroine and opiates
  • AMP: Aamphetamines
  • MET/MDMA: Methamphetamine and ecstasy.

Each substance in the list is detected independently and the concentration in which they are detected depends from testing products to products. This is a particular drawback as there is no standardisation for saliva testing. Different manufacturers use different devices and different concentrations of oral fluid.

Well here too there are loop holes. The marijuana users are somewhat  safe as it can only be detected orally for 12-24hours. Where as

  • Cocaine can be detected upto a day
  • Opiates can be detected for 2-3 days
  • Meth and  ecstasy upto 2-4 days
  • Alcohol is also similar to Marijuana with a detecting period of 6-12 hours

Here’s a little to help you understand medically complex terms like these. If throughout the article you’ve been wondering about the loopholes, there really aren’t that many ways. So gargling, drinking a lot of water, brushing or a thorough mouthwash does not always help. Hence it is always advisable to avoid drugs and live a healthy natural life. It is better to be safe now than sorry later.
